Are there many people who speaks Tartu dialects in Estonia at present yet?
Q. Or, nowadays, people in Tartu speaks Standart Estonian (the one spoken in Tallinn)? In Tartu University, in which language the subjects are taught? If I speak standard estonian in Tartu, will they understand me?

A. University classes are taught in standard Estonian and the textbooks are written in standard Estonian. Yes, they'll understand you if you speak standard Estonian. If you're in the USA, think of it like the southern dialect spoken in the southern states of the USA. A southern (USA) person might say "I seen y'all yesterday when y'all was fixin' to go home." You might hear this in the southern USA, but that person would understand you perfectly well if you said "I saw you yesterday when you were about to go home." The Tartu dialect is more or less like that - you'll hear people speaking with a different accent, using some different vocabulary (which you may even hear sometimes at the university), but they'll understand (and be able to speak… [cont.]
